What the Company Does

Netflix is one of the world's leading online broadcasters and providers of entertainment services. It serves hundreds of millions of subscribers across the world with TV programmes, films and games via a wide variety of genres and languages.

Netflix members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere and can they change their subscription packages whenever they want. Netflix produces and broadcasts its own content as well as bought-in programming from other media companies. 

The company was founded by Marc Randolph and Wilmot Reed Hastings, the current Non-Executive Chairman, in 1997. Netflix began life as a DVD-by-mail service and introduced online streaming of films in 2007. International expansion began in 2010.

As it expanded its library, Netflix began to differentiate itself by producing original content. The company's first notable success was the US version of the political drama series "House of Cards," released in 2013.
