Employee Ownership Day 2023

By Nathan Cameron

Like many employee-owned businesses, Castlefield co-owners mark EO Day each year – an annual day of celebration of employee ownership (EO). In this piece, we summarise the activities enjoyed by the Castlefield team on EO Day 2023.

The Castlefield team hosted their 11th annual Employee Ownership Day celebrations. EO Day, launched by the Employee Ownership Association (EOA), celebrates employee-owned businesses and raises awareness of the benefits and impact of the model. Castlefield is proud to be employee-owned and sees the positive impacts of the EO model in our company culture.

Each EO Day begins with one of our semi-annual ‘How Are We Doing?’ (HAWD) presentations, where senior leaders in the business provide co-owners with an update on business performance and strategy, while reviewing information about our ownership structure and recent achievements and challenges. The presentation ensures that all co-owners have the opportunity to be informed about the business and can pose any questions they may have.

This year’s EO Day celebrations involved a scavenger hunt across Manchester city centre, with challenges and clues leading teams of co-owners to locations such as Manchester Art Gallery, Sackville Gardens and legendary music venue Night and Day, before a race to the final location in Media City. It was a photo finish as the first teams arrived at the first venue of the evening, with David Elton and his team taking the victory. When all the teams had made their way to the finish line, we moved the celebrations to the Quays and boarded a boat for a tour of the Manchester Ship Canal.
