The trust runs the Carymoor Environmental Centre, a timber framed eco-building within 100 acres of capped landfill site in Somerset. The centre is an engaging and fun resource, offering practical advice and demonstration of sustainable construction and eco-living principles.
Originally set up by a group of enthusiasts in 1996, the trust has grown into a professionally staffed organisation, delivering unique opportunities to over 5000 visitors per year. There are also beautiful nature reserves tended by numerous volunteers from the wider community, set up to encourage biodiversity.
Passionate and inspiring education officers deliver an award-winning programme teaching children to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – a powerful message when adjacent to a working landfill site.
Key to the centre's success is the partnership with other agencies including waste management companies, education authorities and wildlife organisations. However, the trust faces a tough year as the local authority have withdrawn funding for their valuable outreach programme.
