Castlefield Co-owners Complete the Great Manchester Run 10k

By David Gorman

Six Castlefield Co-owners ran 10k at the Great Manchester Run 2023, successfully raising over £650 for charity. In this piece, David Gorman summarises the day and reveals the finishing times.

On Sunday May 21st, a team of six runners from Castlefield competed and placed 35th in the corporate team category at the Great Manchester Run 10k. Raising over £650 for our chosen charities for 2023, the Booth Centre, Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN), Walthew House & EMERGE

We were due to have a seventh runner but, unfortunately, Matt Ralph could not shake off a hip injury and had to pull out a few days before the event.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Great Manchester Run and, although I haven’t run the race every year, I did run the first one in 2003. Back then, the race started on Cross Street and finished actually inside what was GMEX, now Manchester Central. I probably still have the Finisher’s T-Shirt at home somewhere.

This year, it was a beautiful, extremely warm day which meant that the crowds turned out in force and created a really great atmosphere. For the runners, however, the heat was less enjoyable as we sought out every bit of shade around the course and made the most of the water stations at 4k and 7k. We all made it home and our times were as follows:

Simon Holman 43mins 54secs

Andrea Morandin 53mins 46secs

Ellie Walley 55mins 06secs

Hugh Austin 60mins 11secs

Tara Lawford 62mins 02secs

David Gorman 66mins 42secs

It’s always a “Great” event and I’m sure that we will run again next year with, we hope, more Castlefield co-owners taking part. Thanks, as ever, to those of you who sponsored us for this event and who help us in all our fundraising efforts.

There's still time to show your support too, if you’d like to donate to our pot please visit: Castlefield Partners is fundraising for The Charity Service (justgiving.com)
