The Castlefield Manchester Sermon

From the 7th- 23rd of October Manchester will play host to the 11th Manchester Literature Festival. Started in 2006 and born out of the Manchester Poetry Festival the event shows the rich artistic and cultural history of Manchester. At Castlefield we are proudly committed to the commissioning of new work by brilliant authors and presenting them at Manchester Cathedral. We do this through The Castlefield Manchester Sermon which this year enjoys its 7th Birthday. Created to reinvigorate the lost art form and offer space for reflection from some of the most influential thinkers and writers of our times. Each year a high profile writer is invited to produce their own ‘sermon’ on a topical, ethical or social issue of the day. Launched by Jeanette Winterson in 2009, the series has so far featured Sir Andrew Motion, Ali Smith, Lionel Shriver and Audrey Niffenegger. The commission is supported by Castlefield.
